Are Your Shop Windows Ready For Christmas?

With the festive season just about to get underway and December 25th just around the corner, it’s time to start thinking about how you’re going to capitalise on the opportunities that Christmas can bring – and your shop windows can do an awful lot of good to help you drive those profits at this time of year.

Making your store work as hard as it can for you is always a good idea but especially at Christmas time, when there will likely be more people passing by as they do their shopping or enjoying what celebrations are being put on around and about. And a well-designed and properly thought-out window display can really help draw customers in through the doors.

All the big-name brands make sure their windows look fantastic from November to December and you too can achieve something similar, even if you don’t have a massive budget to play around with. Even the smallest of tweaks to your displays can make a huge difference.

For a spot of inspiration when it comes to the design of your windows, have a read of this article on the London Evening Standard website, detailing some of the city’s very best displays for 2019. It might help you come up with a few ideas of your own.

Selfridges on Oxford Street seemingly got the festive ball rolling in the middle of October, unveiling its Christmas windows 69 days before December 25th! Every window of the building features an element taken from a classic fairytale or Christmas story, like Cinderella or Rapunzel, but with a modern twist.

Harvey Nichols, meanwhile, has come up with a Scandinavian Christmas look, with festive garlands framing the windows, handcrafted slat panels made of cedar and the lighting set up to glow like the Northern Lights.

Lighting may well be the quickest and easiest win when it comes to designing your window displays and making them seem more festive, so perhaps see what changes you can make in this regard first and take it from there.

Of course, London isn’t the only city in the world to take pride in its festive windows and you’ll find it’s a very similar story in New York, as well.

Macy’s sounds particularly interesting, featuring Santa Girl who watches the Thanksgiving Day Parade from her bedroom window and wishes she was Father Christmas. There’s also a model of her dog, Willow, who gives her ear a scratch when visitors press her nose.

If you can and your budget stretches that far, making your window interactive in some way is a really fun way of trying to entice customers. And never forget that people are likely to share photos of what they’re up to on social media sites like Instagram – a beautiful window is likely to be snapped and shared!
